67-year-old Tass White was arrested Thursday for reckless driving, after police said he struck the student near the intersection of Spence and Ross Streets on the Texas A&M University Campus.

According to police, White was trying to enter into a gated area he did not have an access pass for by coming in behind another driver.  White told police he was not going to make it through the gate in time, so when the gate arms were coming down, he swung over onto the sidewalk to avoid damaging his vehicle.

White said, according to police, he did not realize the student was on the sidewalk, who was then hit by the vehicle.  The student was taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
