The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office has released a short statement regarding the Somerville man in critical condition after his arrest by deputies in April.

The email from Sheriff Thomas Norsworthy reads: “The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office denies the accusations being made against it, in regards to the Chester Jackson matter. Since this matter is pending investigation, we have no further comment at this time.

Investigator Christine Labertew added in the email “when there are future updates, you will be notified”.

According to the attorney for Jackson, U.A. Lewis, Texas Rangers are now involved in the investigation.

The 30-year-old Jackson was arrested on April 19th in front of his home by Burleson County Sheriff’s Deputies on a Public Intoxication charge.  Less than two days after he was booked into jail, he ended up at an Austin-area hospital on life support.  Jackson’s family and attorney said the father of three had small puncture wounds resembling taser marks on his body.

The Sheriff’s Office said Jackson was taken to the hospital via “courtesy transport” of a deputy after he was released from jail.

On Monday, members of Black Lives Matter, family and friends of Jackson gathered at the Sheriff’s Office for a rally and news conference. According to Lewis, while Sheriff Norsworthy has promised video proof of Jackson entering and exiting the jail in good condition, none of the requested evidence has been released.
