Roughly 250 jobs are expected to be lost with the announcement of the closure of an oil and gas equipment plant in Austin County.

Valerus Field Solutions is planning to close its location in Sealy.  Valerus, a division of the Montreal-based engineering and construction firm SNC-Lavalin, plans for the closure to occur in March.

The company’s decision was revealed during open discussion at last week’s meeting of the Austin County Appraisal District Board of Directors.  Board members said the closure will result in a large tax loss for the county, as well as the City of Sealy and Sealy ISD.

The business is estimated to be around $19 million in total taxable value.

Valerus, who occupied the former BAE Systems facility off I-10 in Sealy, had been leasing a portion of the facility since August 2016.
