CUBS TIE ONE; LOSE ONE AT SPRING BRANCH TOURNEY

The Brenham Cubs tied Cy Ranch, then fell to Memorial on the opening day of the Spring Branch Tournament.

In the opener, the Cubs tied Cy Ranch, 3-3.

The game was tied 1-1 going into the 7th, when the Cubs put two runs on the board, keyed by a double by Jake Kolkhorst.  Jackson Corn went six strong innings, yielding just one unearned run.  The Cubs bullpen, however, yielded two runs in the 7th leading to the tie.

In the nightcap, Memorial controlled the game, downing the Cubs, 7-3.

Evan Aschenbeck took the loss, while Garrison Weiss singled and scored a run, and Braden McCain drove in a run with a single.

The Cubs (1-1-1) will face Bridgeland at 11:30 and Stratford at 2:00, Friday at Stratford.

They will close out the weekend taking in Klein High School at Spring Woods, Saturday at 1:30.  That game can be heard on AM-1280 KWHI; FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com.
