ACCIDENT AT HIGHWAY 290 NEAR FM 1948 SHUTS DOWN EASTBOUND LANES

Update #1 @ 9:35 a.m.: Traffic on Highway 290 near Burton is backed up this (Wednesday) morning after an accident involving an 18-wheeler.

Authorities were called out shortly after 7:15 a.m. to the single-vehicle accident, which occurred close to the Highway 290 intersection with FM 1948.

According to Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike McAnally, whose department worked the accident, the 18-wheeler crashed into the guardrail in the center median at the bridge over Sheppard Creek in the construction zone.

As of 9:30 a.m., TxDOT and wreckers were still on scene clearing the accident.

The accident occurred close to the Highway 290 intersection with FM 1948.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 290 are shut down, and westbound traffic is also facing slowdowns.
