Washington County Commissioners at their meeting this (Tuesday) morning approved the 2019-20 school lands report and the disbursement of funds to the two school districts.  The court annually distributes revenue from mineral rights, farming leases and hunting leases in Tom Green County to the school districts based on average daily attendance (ADA).

This year, Brenham ISD received $271,917 based on an ADA of 91.32 percent, while Burton ISD received $25,845 on an ADA of 8.68 percent.

As of September 30th, the county’s Permanent School Fund balance was $1,329,460, the same as its balance on October 1, 2019.

Receipts and disbursements equaled out at $349,622.  Of that amount, the land earned $237,777 from farming leases, $71,075 from hunting leases, and $34,769 in interest.  The total also included a $6,000 right-of-way easement.

Also at today’s meeting, commissioners approved the purchase of materials needed for framing the Washington County EMS hangar in EMS District #5, located at the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.  EMS Director Kevin Deramus said the cost of the materials, which totals $37,978, will be paid for using funding from the Texas Ambulance Supplemental Payment (TASP) program, not local tax dollars.

Deramus said the county received roughly $115,000 in TASP funding this year, and has collected funding annually since 2016.  He said the funds have previously been utilized for the EMS substations in Burton, Chappell Hill, and Old Washington.

Commissioners also:

  • Approved an agreement between the Sheriff’s Office and Keefe Commissary Network, LLC for resident banking software and commissary services at the Washington County Jail.
  • Approved the county engineer to accept a $16,020 donation from Thistle Creek Ranch for road improvements to a section of Mertins Creek Lane in Precinct One. This is the third donation commissioners have accepted for repairs to the road.
  • Approved annual bond renewal for Reserve Deputy Sheriff Alfonzo Gomez, Jr.
  • Proclaimed October 2020 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Washington County.
  • Heard reports from the Sheriff’s Office, EMS, E-911, IT Department, and the veterans service officer.
