CITY OF BRENHAM TO BEGIN FIRE HYDRANT RESTORATION PROJECT MONDAY

Starting Monday, the City of Brenham Water Construction Department will partner with DMD Consultants to begin the 2020-21 Fire Hydrant Restoration Project.

The project will sandblast hydrants to bare metal, prime coat, and paint the hydrants to the recommended standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The fire hydrant painting will take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and last approximately six weeks.  Work will take place along all major corridors in Brenham, as well as the southern half of town south of Main Street.

There are 977 fire hydrants in the city’s distribution system.  For this project, the city will have 510 hydrants painted.  All remaining hydrants will be painted in the 2021-22 Fiscal Year.

The purpose of the project is to enhance the life of the hydrants, protect against corrosion, and color code hydrants to the NFPA’s standards.

Residents and businesses can help by keeping cars parked away from fire hydrants, moving all decorations at least 10 feet away from hydrants, and trimming any vegetation away from hydrants at least 3 feet in all directions.  If 3-foot clearance is not achieved, the city will have to trim the area to perform work.

Anyone with questions or concerns can call 979-337-7410.  After hours or weekend calls concerning water service issues can be made to 979-337-7400.
