REP. LEMAN APPOINTED VICE CHAIR FOR HOUSE COMMITTEE ON LAND AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

LEMAN ALSO APPOINTED TO SERVE ON ENERGY RESOURCES, CALENDARS COMMITTEES

Ben Leman
(R-Anderson)

State Representative Ben Leman has been appointed as Vice Chair for the House Committee on Land and Resource Management.

Leman was also appointed by House Speaker Dade Phelan to serve on the House Committee on Energy Resources, along with the House Calendars Committee.

The Land and Resource Committee has jurisdiction over all matters dealing with public lands, including eminent domain; the creation, modification and regulation of municipal utility districts; and annexation.  The committee also has oversight of the School Land Board, Board for Lease of University Lands, and the General Land Office.

The Energy Resources Committee deals with matters pertaining to the conservation of the energy resources in Texas.  It also oversees the production, regulation, transportation and development of oil, gas, and other energy resources, and identifies and develops alternative energy resources.  In addition, it has jurisdiction over the Railroad Commission of Texas, the Offices of Interstate Oil Compact Commissioner and Interstate Mining Compact Commissioner for Texas, the State Energy Conservation Office, and the Office of Southern States Energy Board Member for Texas.

The House Calendars Committee is a procedural committee that manages the placement of bills to be considered—or not—by the full body of the Texas House of Representatives.  All bills that get voted on in committees go to the calendars committee, who review the bills before they are put to a vote on the House floor.

Leman said he “couldn’t be happier” with his appointments to these committees, saying each one has “a unique impact on House District 13.”  He said these committees will allow him to “enact meaningful change” for his district, but also “become a better champion for conservative rural values throughout Texas.”
