BURTON SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES TEA WAIVERS, INCLEMENT WEATHER RESOLUTION

The Burton School Board met Monday to address a series of items pertaining to February’s winter weather.

Members of the Burton School Board meet Monday, March 8th. The meeting was broadcast via Zoom.

The board approved requesting several Texas Education Agency (TEA) waivers and passed a resolution regarding an inclement weather emergency.

The TEA allows districts or campuses to request waivers to avoid having to make up missed school days if severe weather was the reason for missing them.

A low-attendance waiver will be requested for January 11th, due to school attendance that day being 84 percent because of the snowfall the day prior.

Waivers will also be requested for February 16th, when the district transitioned from on-campus to remote learning, and for missed school days February 17-19 due to inclement weather.

The resolution approved by the board authorizes Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy to adjust the calendar and pay staff for inclement weather and safety during the week of February 15-19.

Also on Monday, the board approved an ESC Region VII purchasing cooperative agreement and resolution.  Region VII has the purchasing cooperative that allows the district to use ABM as its custodial service.

The board also tabled a contract for the Burton special services cooperative director until its meeting in April.
