FORMER TEXAS HIGHWAY ENGINEER, WASHINGTON CO. ACTIVIST ARTHUR GEICK DIES

  

A longtime engineer for the Texas Highway Department and member of numerous Washington County organizations has died.

Arthur Al Geick died February 25th at the age of 91.

A graduate of Brenham High School and a member of the Cub Football Hall of Honor, Geick joined the Texas Highway Department, now known as TxDOT, after two years of service in the U.S. Army.

As Supervising Resident Engineer, Geick designed, built and maintained highways.  During his 38 years of service, approximately 929 acres of land was obtained for right of way to improve highways in Washington, Grimes and Burleson counties.

Geick was involved with several local organizations, serving as president of the Brenham Gun and Rod Club and Wonder Hill Shooting Club, board member for the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, vice president of Washington County Little League, and a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge and Brenham Rotary Club.

Geick also educated and developed the promotion and growth of bluebonnets and other wildflowers in Washington County, served on the committee for the development of the “Welcome to Washington County” structures, and was instrumental in obtaining a historical designation and marker for the Rosedale Nursery in Brenham at the corner of FM 577 and Rosedale Drive.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 13th at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Brenham.
