BRENHAM POLICE ID OFFICERS HURT DURING PURSUIT; SUSPECT IN CUSTODY ON $1.25 MILLION

The Brenham Police Department has identified the two officers who were injured Friday during a traffic stop that turned into a multi-county pursuit.

Trayvon Tyrone DK May
(Washington Co. Jail)

Officers Armando and Andrea Guerra were taken to Baylor Scott & White in Brenham for minor injuries suffered while attempting to arrest 23-year-old Trayvon May of Madison, Wisconsin.  According to Brenham Police Chief Ron Parker, they were released the same evening and are recovering at home.

Brenham police say the two officers were assaulted after May escaped from his handcuffs and jumped out of their patrol car, after they took him into custody for various traffic violations during a stop on Highway 290.  The police department says May ran back to his vehicle and struggled with officers as he attempted to flee, at one point trying to run them over while they were pushed partially under the car.  One of the officers fired their weapon in defense and struck the vehicle twice.

Police chased May eastbound on Highway 290, but lost sight of him around Chappell Hill.  State troopers intercepted him in Waller County and pursued him into Harris County.  Police say he fled on foot after crashing at Highway 290 and Gessner Road and injured himself after jumping about 50 feet from the Highway 290 overpass.

May was taken to the Washington County Jail, where he remains in custody on charges including two counts of Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle.  His bond is set at $1,250,000.

According to Parker, the Texas Rangers are handling the investigation.
