TEXAS A&M WILL NOT PLAY IN TAXSLAYER GATOR BOWL

The Texas A&M Aggies will not play in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

Texas A&M Athletics announced this (Wednesday) afternoon that due to a combination of COVID-19 issues and season-ending injuries within the football program, the team will not be able to participate in the game against Wake Forest on December 31st in Jacksonville, Florida.

Head Coach Jimbo Fisher said the decision is unfortunate, but “we just don’t have enough scholarship players available to field a team.”

Athletic Director Ross Bjork said “the well-being and safety of our student-athletes is paramount.”  He added that players “poured their heart and soul into this season and we appreciate their dedication as Aggies.”

  1. They have 85 full scholarships plus walkons. How can they not find 11 players to put on the field? So much for the 12th man tradition. Aggies have gone soft.

    1. I feel Jimbo does not want to risk a loss going on his record. Doesn’t matter if the second and third string players loose the opportunity to play in a bowl game. Sorry for the guys who practice every day and do not receive any recognition.

      1. Jimbo Fisher makes almost $25,000 PER DAY in his current contract status, and I fully agree that he’s not worried about anything beyond his record. That record will, no doubt, allow him to move on to yet another university and make even more money than he currently makes.

    2. I’m not an Aggie fan at all but I agree with your statement. How can they not have enough guys to suit up and play?

    3. Because it takes 22-35 to take the field. That is the reason, 11 on both sides plus special teams. If you only think it takes eleven then you obviously don’t pay very much attention to football.

      1. They have 85 scholarship athletes (or close to it) plus walk ons… you mean to tell me they couldn’t put at least 35 (in your words) players out there? Seems like covid is a MASSIVE problem if they have over 50 cases on the team.

      2. Well Jimbo said he had “39” scholarship players available. That would be more than 35 so the question is still valid….C’Mon man!!

    4. Well Mr Common Sense it is not up to Jimbo. The conference came up with Covid guidelines and a set number for them to be able to play. With the injuries and opt outs they were below the number of 40 scholarship athletes. Yeah they could have been over that but some kids would lose their red shirt and the SEC doesn’t think that is fair for kids.
