CHILD TREATED FOR MINOR INJURIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY TRAIN IN BELLVILLE

A 9-year-old boy suffered minor injuries after being struck by a train Sunday morning in Bellville.

The Bellville Police Department says around 7 a.m., the boy received a head wound when he possibly leaned into one of the train’s cars and was hit in the side of his head.

According to police, the train engineer saw the boy from a distance and began to activate the brakes, so the train was traveling slowly when the boy was struck.

The child was taken to the Bellville Medical Center for treatment.

BNSF Railway and Bellville police are investigating the incident.  No further information is available.
