GOV. ABBOTT SAYS STATE IS PREPARED FOR INCOMING FREEZING WEATHER

As Texas braces for freezing weather, Governor Greg Abbott and other officials are assuring citizens that the state’s power grid is ready for it.

Governor Greg Abbott

Abbott at a news conference Tuesday said the Public Utility Commission (PUC) has inspected all of the state’s power generators and at least 99 percent “have passed inspection and are fully operational.”  He said the PUC will provide staff 24/7 and will give updates about any outages.

Abbott said the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) will have an excess 15,000 megawatts of power available for residents across the state, even at the point of highest demand.

Interim ERCOT CEO Brad Jones said, “We are ready for this storm.  We will be prepared for this.”

Abbott cautioned Texans that power outages could still occur, but they could be the result of local problems such as downed power lines or fallen trees.  He said state officials “are utilizing every applicable state agency to make sure Texas will respond to this storm.”

ERCOT has issued an operation condition notice for the storm starting today (Wednesday), and expects the grid will see the highest demand Friday morning.

  1. No reforms or accountability for power companies after 700+ people froze to death. Gas companies made $11 BILLION off of our misery as people froze to death inside their homes. Instead of forcing reforms Abbott did the opposite, deliberately looking the other way while passing the cost of grid failure on to us. This is what Greg Abbott negotiated: We get higher utility bills with no guarantees against failure, while Greg Abbott, representing nobody but his own bottom line, raked in $4.6 Million in campaign donations from these same companies (the ones that made $11 BILLION dollars instead of keeping people alive at temperatures human beings can survive.)

  2. It’s like listening to the Charlie Brown teacher. Don’t trust a single WAH WAH coming out of their mouths.
