BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO HEAR RECOMMENDATION FOR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, DISCUSS POSSIBLE BOND PROJECTS
The Brenham School Board will potentially receive a recommendation on who to hire as Brenham ISD’s new athletic director at one of two meetings Thursday.
After an executive session, Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin plans to present trustees with a recommendation for the position formerly held by Eliot Allen, who in January became the new athletic director for Bastrop ISD.
According to Dr. Chaplin, the district utilized a committee of school and community representatives during the search process. Five candidates were interviewed out of roughly 100 applicants. Dr. Chaplin said all interviewees were considered “legitimate candidates and potential finalists for the position.”
Prior to the board’s discussion on the athletic director, it will potentially approve the district’s 2020-21 financial audit performed by Belt Harris Pechacek.
After the first meeting, the board will go into a work session to review possible recommendations from the district’s bond planning committee. The meeting was postponed from last week due to the winter weather.
When trustees met on January 18th, the committee encouraged them to consider moving forward with 13 major projects adding up to nearly $154 million. Those projects include building a new junior high school and converting the current middle school into a fourth elementary school.
Currently, the proposed junior high school would be built to accommodate students in grades 6-8. All elementary schools would house students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
The board will meet Thursday starting at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School.
