WCHLA GINGERBREAD HOUSE AUCTION THURSDAY

The Washington County Healthy Living Association is hosting its first-ever gingerbread house auction tomorrow (Thursday) to raise funding for the Margaret E. Blizzard Senior Activity Center.

Twenty-six decorated gingerbread houses created by local students, businesses and organizations will be up for bid at a silent and live auction at the Senior Center.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the live auction with Roger Chambers starts at 6 p.m.  Hors d’oeuvres, snacks, hot chocolate, wassail and adult beverages will be available.

WCHLA Executive Director Willy Dilworth says the inspiration for the gingerbread house auction came from Habitat for Humanity, who hosted similar events several years ago.  The intent is to encourage community members to see the Senior Center and learn about the services it provides for senior citizens.

Dilworth says he has been thrilled thus far by the public’s response and is eager for tomorrow night’s event.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Senior Center, which serves lunches to around 150 seniors a day and meals to about 40 homebound residents per week.  The Senior Center also offers exercise classes, games, quilting, sewing, meditation and other activities.
