‘CELEBRATE OUR SENIORS’ PROGRAM BEGINNING ACTIVITIES TO MARK 20TH ANNIVERSARY

The Thomye Delle “Celebrate Our Seniors” program commemorates 20 years of service to Brenham and Washington County this August, and has already begun honoring area senior citizens in recognition of the milestone.

The first activity took place on Wednesday, February 15th and involved seniors at the Brenham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  In cooperation with the youth ministry at Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Brenham, the program reformed the “Hattie Lee Franklin-Maxie Bingo Challenge” by bringing it to the senior citizens.

Program founder Veronica Maxie says by celebrating throughout the year, the program is “building a bridge between our seniors and youth.”

Similar Bingo challenges will be held at High Hope Skilled Care Center in April and at Argent Court Assisted Living Center in June.  The Bingo challenge is typically held during the annual “Celebrate Our Seniors” program in August.  Any other youth and churches who wish to help are welcome to participate.

These and other planned activities are in addition to an expanded program on Saturday, August 12th, in which care packages will again be delivered to senior citizens in nursing homes and private residences.  Program volunteers and sponsors will also be recognized on that day.

Program co-founder Tre Maxie says the group is “humbled by the incredible support from the community that has enabled us to celebrate our seniors for 20 years.”
