BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO HAVE THREE NEW MEMBERS; BURTON BOARD INCUMBENTS WIN RE-ELECTION
Leadership in local schools saw a shakeup as a result of Saturday’s election.
On the Brenham School Board, Bonnie Brinkmeyer will become the new Position 1 representative after her victory over James Franke, 2,322 – 1,159. Brinkmeyer fills the seat formerly held by Mark Schneider, who resigned from the board in May 2022 after moving out of the district.
Brinkmeyer appreciates the turnout in this election and the conviction voters had in knowing what qualities they wanted in a candidate.
Franke said he learned a lot during this election process and hopes to take that with him as he considers another potential run in the future.
Archer Archer unseated Position 2 incumbent Dr. Michael Altman 1,828 – 1,625.
Archer said student learning, discipline and transparency will be his main focus as he joins the board.
Dr. Altman did not immediately respond to KWHI’s request for comment, but provided a written statement late Monday congratulating all of the winners, saying, "It was a very good race and I wish them nothing but the best and the best for BISD."
Kyle Hafner will fill the Position 3 seat following his defeat of Artis Edwards Sr., 2,375 – 1,095. The position was previously held by Susan Jenkins, who did not run for re-election after 10 years on the board.
Hafner is looking to ensure that the school district and the community can build a stronger relationship.
Edwards believes Hafner will be a good fit for the school board and wished him well moving forward.
Kelvin Raven narrowly won re-election as Position 4 trustee against challenger David Jantzi, 1,740 – 1,704.
Raven is thankful to be able to continue his work in supporting students and teachers.
Jantzi appreciates the ability to have run for the board and the support he received along the way.
A total of 21,653 voters were registered for the Brenham ISD election. The Position 1 race had 3,481 ballots cast over early voting and Election Day, while Position 2 saw 3,453, Position 3 had 3,470 and Position 4 took in 3,444.
On the Burton School Board, all three incumbents won another term as trustee, with Dean Fuchs getting the highest number of votes at 264, followed by Misty Lucherk with 233 and Donna Putnam with 227.
Fuchs said each of the candidates in this race care greatly for the children of Burton ISD and is pleased to be able to keep serving the district.
Putnam is grateful to have the ability to continue contributing toward Burton education.
KWHI is awaiting a response from Lucherk.
Ande Bostain received 214 votes. Bostain said how close the race was indicated how the school community felt about each of the contenders.
The Burton ISD election had 2,699 registered voters. Through early voting and Election Day, there were 938 votes cast. Results are unofficial until they are canvassed by each board.
