CUBETTES DEFEAT DRIPPING SPRINGS IN MATINEE GAME
After losing a tough one to Forney last (Thursday) night, the Brenham Cubette Softball Team bounced back with a 5-2 win over the Dripping Springs Lady Tigers this (Friday) afternoon.
Dripping Springs, who is coached by former Cubette Head Coach Wade Womack, took the early lead with a run in the top of the second to make it 1-0.
Brenham finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Halle Scheel led off the inning with a single to rightfield. Kaylyn Rodriguez and Sarah Mabie reached on back-to-back bunt singles. Annie Beckendorf grounded into a fielder's choice as Scheel was erased on a force play at home.
Kaylyn Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1.
Nevaeh Holmes was then brought in to run for Mabie. Kaylie Rodriguez laid down a picture perfect suicide squeeze as Holmes raced in to score the second run, and put the Cubettes in front.
The Lady Tigers tied it 2-2 in the top of the sixth on a solo homer by Jai Flores.
Brenham would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. Singles by Scheel and Mabie set the stage for Beckendorf, who hit a line drive three-run homer to make it 5-2.
Heidi Busker gave the Cubettes a big lift by going all seven innings to get the win in the circle.
