SOMERVILLE MAN DIES IN GRIMES COUNTY TRAFFIC CRASH
A Somerville man is dead following a two-vehicle traffic crash in Grimes County on Tuesday.
According to DPS Sgt. Justin Ruiz, 48-year-old Derrick Coleman was driving a Mercedes SUV along FM 2, when he turned on to Highway 6 in the left lane.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Coleman attempted to change lanes, and was struck by a 2024 Dodge Ram 1500, which was also a Hempstead Police Department unmarked vehicle.
The Dodge was traveling south on Highway 6 in the right lane.
Ruiz said the Mercedes then left the roadway into the center median, and overturned.
Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene by Grimes County Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Mark Laughlin.
The driver of the Dodge was not injured.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
