ACCIDENT, OVEN FIRE AMONG SIX WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FD

The Brenham Fire Department responded to six calls between Saturday and Sunday.

Just after 3:45 p.m. Saturday, units were called out to the 4300 block of Brown College Lane for a vehicle fire, but they were cancelled enroute per other firefighters on scene.

Approaching 6 p.m., BFD members were dispatched to a possible structure fire in the 800 block of Pleasantview Avenue.  They made location to find a small fire in the front yard that had been extinguished prior to their arrival.

Around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, a report of a gas smell was called in outside the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1400 Niebuhr Street.  Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department found a small leak at the meter.  The gas department repaired the leak.

Nearing 2:30 p.m., the fire department went out to the 400 block of Highway 105 for a transportation incident.  Units found a two-vehicle accident and checked on the drivers, but no one was hurt.  They returned to service after the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

Shortly past 7:30 p.m., personnel responded to a fire investigation at a home in the 2600 block of Cheri Lane.  They arrived to find a fire on the ground burning, spoke with the homeowner and had the fire extinguished.

Close to 10 p.m., units were called to the Blinn College Park Apartments, 405 South Saeger Street, for a report of a structure fire.  They discovered a light haze coming from the exterior of the building, and upon entering the apartment, they found a fire inside an oven extinguished.  Firefighters used a fan to ventilate the apartment and visited with a Blinn College employee before clearing the call.  The fire was started by a pizza box left in the oven.
