BAYLOR SCOTT & WHITE HEALTH PLAN TO EXIT TEXAS MEDICAID MANAGED CARE, STOP CARRYING INDIVIDUAL MARKETPLACE PLANS
The Baylor Scott & White Health Plan intends to leave the Texas Medicaid Managed Care Program and no longer offer Individual Marketplace coverage.
In an announcement this week, the health plan announced it has notified regulators of its plans to exit Medicaid Managed Care on August 31st and discontinue Individual Marketplace plans after December 31st. The announcement said the decision “reflects the state’s Medicaid procurement decision and Individual Marketplace complexities.”
The change only affects people with health care coverage plans through the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan. It does not impact Baylor Scott & White patients who use a different health care insurer, so patients with other Medicaid or marketplace plans will not see a change.
Per the announcement, about 3.5 percent of Texas Medicaid customers – or 125,000 people – and 2.6 percent of marketplace customers – or 100,000 people – are served through the Baylor Scott & White Health Plan.
Following regulatory approval, the health plan will contact enrollees who are affected.
The announcement said employees who are impacted will be offered career guidance, priority access to open roles within the system, funded reskilling for high-demand clinical positions and extended medical benefits.
