BURTON SOFTBALL COMPLETES SWEEP OF MUMFORD FOR THE DISTRICT TITLE

The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team completed the sweep of the Mumford Lady Mustangs last (Friday) night with a 9-0 victory in front of the hometown fans.

Lexi Broesche went the distance on a complete game shutout. In seven innings pitched, she gave up one hit, four walks, one HBP, and struck out eight.

Burton struck right away with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Lexi Broesche drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI double by Amaya Williams to make it 1-0 Lady Panthers.

The big inning for Burton came in the bottom of the third inning, when they put five runs on the board.

Lexi Broesche and Natalie Hodde reached on back-to-back errors. Broesche ended up scoring on a passed ball, while Hodde came home on an RBI single by Williams to give Burton a 3-0 lead. Paige Fritsch followed with a two-run homer to increase the Lady Panther advantage to 5-0. Laci Broesche drew a walk, and stole second. Leliah Ellis reached on the Lady Mustangs third error of the inning that allowed Broesche to score and make it 6-0 Burton.

The Lady Panthers added another run in the bottom of the fourth, when Mumford walked the bases loaded, and Williams scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.

Burton got two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lexi Broesche walked, and Hodde singled. Broesche came home on an RBI double by Williams, and Hodde scored on an RBI single by Fritsch to increase the Lady Panthers' lead to 9-0.

Last (Friday) night was also Senior Night. They honored the outgoing Seniors: Abby Dowling, Aerynn Huntsman, Paige Fritsch, Amaya Williams, Melanie Wood, and manager Kolbie Parker.

With the win, Burton finishes District 26-2A with a perfect 10-0 record. Six of the ten wins were via the mercy rule. They are 16-12 overall on the season.
