CUB BASEBALL TAKES GAME ONE OF THEIR SERIES WITH DAYTON 7-4
The Brenham Cub Baseball Team drew first blood in their series with a 7-4 victory over the Dayton Broncos last (Thursday) night in College Station.
Brenham got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Owen Finke reached on a one-out single, and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Drake Bentke brought him home on an RBI single to make it 1-0 Cubs.
The next score came in the bottom of the third inning. Dalton Hart led it off with a single. Bentke moved him over to second base with another single. Luke Hardy, then, drove him in with the second run for Brenham with another single, and that made it 2-0.
The Cubs blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Hart and Finke singled, while Bentke walked to load the bases. Ethan Aschenbeck singled home Hart to increase the Brenham lead to 3-0. Hardy would then help his own cause with a grand slam over the center field fence, which increased the Cubs' advantage to 7-0.
Dayton got on the board with a pair of home runs in the sixth inning, a solo shot and a three-run blast, which cut the Brenham lead down to 7-4. However, that would be as close as they would get.
Luke Hardy went the distance to get the win.
The Cubs lead the series 1-0. Game two is scheduled for tonight (Friday) at 7pm at College Station High School, weather permitting. If Brenham wins, the series is over. If Dayton wins, then they would play a third game tomorrow (Saturday) at 2pm at College Station. KWHI will have live coverage.
