WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS AFFIRM SUPPORT FOR RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT, PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS

on a proclamation adopted by county
commissioners on Tuesday, which outlines the
county's support of responsible development,
private property rights and the enforcement of the
county's subdivision and development regulations.
Washington County Commissioners read a proclamation today (Tuesday) supporting responsible development, private property rights, and the enforcement of the county’s subdivision and development regulations in unincorporated areas.
The proclamation, read by County Judge John Durrenberger, recognizes the concerns posed by residents as the county continues to grow, bringing in new subdivisions and businesses. It says while counties are limited by the state in how much oversight they have regarding development, Washington County will utilize the measures it can to protect citizens and maintain infrastructure.
The commissioners court moved in March to approve several updates to the county’s subdivision and development regulations and its design and construction standards.
County Engineer Wesley Stolz said the new standards are meant to be proactive, noting that neighboring areas – particularly to the east – have experienced great growth, and he believes what they are seeing now will be what Washington County sees before long.
Commissioners Kirk Hanath and Candice Bullock thanked Stolz and the Engineering and Development Services staff for their time working on the updated regulations. Commissioner Misti Hartstack Corn said there are many cases where residents express frustration about development in certain areas, and she hopes this proclamation will help them understand why the county may be unable to reject them.
