BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO HEAR UPDATE ON 290 – 36 INTERCHANGE PROJECT
Brenham City Councilmembers will receive new information in work session on Thursday regarding the cloverleaf interchange project at Highway 290 and Highway 36.
Representatives from TxDOT are scheduled to give a presentation for the council to give feedback on landscaping and preliminary aesthetic designs. After the workshop and input from the council, TxDOT will advance the design, landscaping selections and overall look of the project in the construction documents for contractor bidding.
Per the agenda packet, the discussion will cover updated aesthetic elements like rails, columns, bent caps, abutments and retaining walls. It will also go over landscaping packages, from options funded by TxDOT to alternatives requiring local participation.
Construction on the project is expected to start in late 2028.
Also at Thursday’s meeting, the council will potentially award a request for proposals (RFP) to lease the city-owned hangar at the Brenham Municipal Airport. The city received proposals from Brenham Aero Tech and Aviators Plus/Triton Air, and city staff is recommending proceeding with Brenham Aero Tech for a proposed five-year term with the option to renew for two additional two-year terms.
Additionally, the council will perform the second reading to grant a Planned Development District designation for 5.73 acres at 708 Seelhorst Street. Earlier this month, the council voted on first reading to authorize Jeremy and Chelsea Bowie of Chelsea Build, LLC to proceed with plans for a 32-unit cluster housing community of single-family cottage homes.
In other business, the council will:
- Act on the acceptance of a $14,000 grant through the Office of the Governor’s Homeland Security Grants Division for the fire department’s purchase of three gas monitors and funding for the first year of a three-year maintenance service contract for the monitors.
- Receive the city’s second-quarter financial report for Fiscal Year 2025-26 and hear an update from the development services department.
- Meet in executive session to go over personnel matters, including the appointment, employment, evaluation and duties of a new city manager.
The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
