WASHINGTON COUNTY MAJOR GIRLS WIN DISTRICT 13 CHAMPIONSHIP
The Washington County Major Girls Softball Team wrapped up the District 13 Tournament with a 12-2 victory over the La Grange All Stars last (Monday) night in Giddin
Washington County jumped out to the early lead with six runs in the first inning. Lonna Wunderlich and Kinsley Haferkamp started it off with a pair of singles. Teagyn Wilson followed with an RBI single that scored Wunderlich with the first run of the game.
Belle Schroeder smashed a two-run double to bring in Haferkamp and Wilson to make it a 3-0 game. Kinley Parker followed with an RBI single to score Schroeder. After Stella Church reached on an error, Caroline Sommer slugged a two-run double to increase Washington County's lead to 6-0.
The score would remain the same until the bottom of the third. Washington County added two more runs to increase their advantage to 8-0. Wilson led off the inning with a single, took second on a passed ball, third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI ground out by Parker.
La Grange scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the Washington County lead down to 8-2.
However, Washington County put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Teagyn Wilson capped it off with a two-run triple to make it a 12-2 score, and that also put the mercy rule into effect.
Haferkamp pitched the first three innings shutting down La Grange. She allowed no runs, no hits, no walks, and struck out five to get the win in the circle.
Washington County up by going 4-0 in the tournament, and outscoring their opponents, 62-2.
Due to their being no Section 1 Tournament for the Majors Girls division, Washington County now moves on to the State Softball Tournament, which starts on July 10 in Rosenburg.
