UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN WASHINGTON CO. UP SLIGHTLY IN JULY

  

Unemployment numbers in Washington County rose slightly over the last month.

According to figures from the Texas Workforce Commission, the county’s jobless rate increased to 3.9 percent in July, up from 3.7 percent in June.

In July, the total work force in the county was 15,004, with 582 unemployed.  June’s labor force was 15,066, with 552 jobless.  The unemployment rate last July was 4.1 percent, with a labor force of 14,785 and 609 without work.

The state’s unemployment rate remained at 3.4 percent last month, matching the all-time record low set in June.  The record is currently the lowest the rate has been since series tracking started in 1976.  The state economy added 35,200 seasonally adjusted non-farm jobs in July.

The July jobless rates for surrounding counties include:

  • Austin County – 3.7 percent, up two-tenths from June.
  • Brazos County – 3.1 percent, up one-tenth.
  • Burleson County – 3.3 percent, also up one-tenth.
  • Fayette County – 2.5 percent, down three-tenths from June.
  • Grimes County – 4.4 percent, up two-tenths.
  • Lee County – 3.1 percent, also up two-tenths.
  • Waller County – 4.1 percent, up one-tenth.
