UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN WASHINGTON CO. SLIGHTLY UP IN NOVEMBER

  

Unemployment numbers in Washington County rose slightly over the past month.

According to numbers from the Texas Workforce Commission, the county’s jobless rate increased to 3.1 percent in November, up from 3 percent in October.

The total work force in the county in November was 15,038, with 473 unemployed.  October’s labor force was 15,118, with 457 jobless.  Last November’s jobless rate for Washington County was 3.3 percent, with a labor force of 15,017 and 497 without work.

The state’s unemployment rate held steady at 3.4 percent in November, marking the sixth straight month of record low unemployment in the state starting in June.  It is the lowest unemployment rate since series tracking began in 1976.  The state economy added 35,200 seasonally adjusted non-farm jobs in November.

The November jobless rates for surrounding counties include:

  • Austin County – 3.4 percent, up two-tenths from October.
  • Brazos County – 2.5 percent, unchanged from October.
  • Burleson County – 3.2 percent, up three-tenths.
  • Fayette County – 2.5 percent, up one-tenth.
  • Grimes County – 3.8 percent, unchanged from October.
  • Lee County – 2.7 percent, up one-tenth.
  • Waller County – 3.6 percent, down one-tenth.
