BRENHAM MAIFEST ASSOCIATION TO HOLD PARADE SATURDAY; TARGET DATE ANNOUNCEMENT PLANNED FOR FRIDAY

The COVID-19 pandemic may have prevented activities for the annual Brenham Maifest to run as planned this weekend, but the Maifest Association will still look to celebrate 130 years of tradition this weekend.

The Maifest Association will host a 130th Birthday Parade on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the courthouse square in downtown Brenham.  The no-contact parade will feature parade participants with costumes and decorated vehicles.  This year’s Maifest Kings and Queens and their families will be at the four corners of the courthouse.

Maifest Association President Catherine Kenjura says everyone is welcome to participate.

Participants are asked to line up on Main Street at Market Street in the left-hand lane.  They will drive by the courthouse, turning left onto North Park Street and then the left-hand lane of Alamo Street.  They are also asked to stay in their car, as there will be no contact with each other or with the Maifest families.

Kenjura says participation in Saturday’s parade will also benefit local businesses and “frontline workers”.

The Maifest Association’s maximum donation will be $5,000.

Kenjura said a new target date for this year’s Maifest celebration will be released on Friday, and will likely land sometime in the fall.
