BRENHAM ANIMAL SERVICES SELECTED FOR SHELTER IMPROVEMENT PILOT PROGRAM
Brenham Animal Services announced this week that the Brenham Pet Adoption Center (BPAC) has been selected by American Pets Alive (AmPA) to be an Animal Welfare Social Services Coalition (ASSC) participant.
AmPA selected the top 20 organizations with the ability to implement the ASSC pilot as a Tier 2 member, with BPAC being one of the top 20. The animal shelter will implement the ASSC pilot, which includes 3 main programs- community-based rehoming, community-housed lost and found, and pet owner resource support. They will completely implement this model within 12 months.
BAS changed operational strategies in the wake of COVID-19, and they now have the ability to show potential pet-adopters the animals they have on hand virtually.
The shelter’s goal in participating with ASSC is to limit the number of animals within the shelter, focus more on local fostering, and increase social media presence in order to showcase animals to people anywhere.
Between May 15 and 30, BPAC admitted 30 animals, as compared to the same dates in 2019, when BPAC admitted 273 animals. Intake is down 89% since last year.
When the animal shelter closed on March 15, there were 70 animals. 20 animals went to foster homes, and all but 4 of the foster animals have been adopted.
The shelter has 12 animals that are up for adoption, and they can see during the ASPCA Adopt from Home Event this weekend at https://adopt.adopets.com/shelter/brenham-humane-services
Adoption fees are $95, which includes vaccination, sterilization, microchipping, and disease testing.
Oh yes, more money and more resources available to a city service that no longer accepts ‘found animals’ it is still up to kind hearted citizens to house and feed strays and to identify those with special needs and in addition to their own pets, vet and feed these animals. This will be a win win for the entity involved and a lose lose for those citizens that try to help and all the animals, both strays and your pets!
With the shelter being closed. People are dumping animals on the roads. I found a puppy on my road.
