BLUEBONNET ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE WARNING CUSTOMERS OF PHONE SCAMS
During the month of January, more than 30 Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative members have reported recent phone scams claiming to represent the power provider.
Fraudulent callers have told co-op members that their power will be disconnected unless they make a payment immediately over the telephone.
According to Bluebonnet General Manager Matt Bentke, the key to stopping the scammers is to know your account status.
Bluebonnet customers can contact their member services number by calling 1-800-842-7708. They can all visit them on their website, bluebonnet.coop, or on their mobile app.
If payments are late, Bluebonnet Electric will first send a customer a reminder notice by mail. If no payment is made after that, the customer then receives a courtesy phone call from the cooperative’s automated phone system within 10 days after the due date.
If you are a Bluebonnet member, who has not received a reminder in the mail or a courtesy call about your account, and has someone call you demanding money right away, do not pay them.
Do not give the caller any personal information, information about your Bluebonnet account, or banking and credit card information.
Instead, report all potential phone scams to local law enforcement.
