CITY OF BURTON LIFTS EMERGENCY WATER DEMAND MANAGEMENT PLAN, INSTITUTES BOIL WATER NOTICE
The City of Burton’s Stage III Drought Contingency and Emergency Water Demand Management Plan has been lifted, but a boil water notice is now in effect.
The city has ended the restrictions on water use that were enacted on September 26th. However, due to the repair and maintenance of the city water well, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required the City of Burton’s public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption. This includes water used for drinking, washing of the hands or face, or brushing teeth.
Children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be brought to a vigorous boil and then boiled for two minutes prior to use.
In lieu of boiling, residents can purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the city will rescind the boil water notice and notify customers.
