NUMEROUS CONTESTED RACES FOR BRENHAM, BURTON, BLINN ELECTIONS AS FILING DEADLINE PASSES

Friday was the filing deadline for candidates planning to run for the May 6th City Council and School Board elections.

For the Brenham City Council, the only contested race is for Mayor, where Atwood Kenjura will face Keith Hofmann. Current Mayor, Milton Tate, decided not to seek another term of office.

Ward 2 Councilman Albert Wright and Ward 4 Councilwoman Adonna Saunders are unopposed for re-election.

There is a special election for the Ward 3 Council seat that is vacant due to Kenjura running for Mayor. Because of the seat being a special election, the filing deadline is extended until March 6. So far, Dr. Paul LaRoche is the only one to file for the position.

For Brenham ISD, all four positions on the Board of Trustees will be contested.  For position one, Bonnie Brinkmeyer faces James Franke for the seat vacated by Mark Schneider.

For position two, Dr. Michael Altman, the incumbent, faces challenger, Archer Archer.

For position three, Kyle Hafner will face Artis Edwards Sr. The incumbent, Susan Jenkins is not running for re-election.

For position four, the incumbent, Kelvin Raven is running against David Jantzi.

In Burton ISD, there will be four people running for three at-large seats.

Incumbents Dean Fuchs, Misty Lucherk, and Donna Putnam have all filed for re-election. Former board member Ande Bostain has also filed for the election.

The Blinn College Board of Trustees will have a contested election. Diane Kettler will face Andi Liner in Precinct 2. Allison Bentke in Precinct 3 was the only candidates to file in that race.

The City of Burton has not yet provided a list of candidates who have filed for its council election.
