BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO VOTE ON REMAINING WITH TASB OR JOINING NEW GROUP

  

The Brenham School Board will consider Monday whether to stay a member of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) or join a new organization.

Trustees will hear a presentation from TASB before deciding to either stay on board with the organization or instead become a member of Texans for Excellence in Education (TEE), a group formed as an alternative to TASB. 

TEE’s Executive Director, Hava Armstrong, presented the board last month with details about the organization, what it provides and the steps involved should the school district decide to transfer over.  According to Armstrong, TEE began its suite of services to represent school boards after some boards expressed dissatisfaction with TASB’s policies and guidelines. 

TEE’s services include energy, fuel and purchasing co-ops; board management tools; accredited board training; guidance and assistance for school policy; legislative updates; insurance; human resources and cash management.

In March, Carroll ISD in Southlake became the first public school district in Texas to end its membership with TASB.  The district heard from TEE in June, and Armstrong said it is in the process of transitioning along with three other unnamed school districts. 

In other business, the board will hear an update on the district’s STAAR/EOC results and consider approval of the district’s library policies and procedures manual.  An executive session is planned to consult with an attorney and discuss personnel matters and school security.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School.  The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD’s YouTube channel.
