FAYETTE COUNTY DEPUTY ARRESTS TWO FOR MONEY LAUNDERING
Two men were arrested on Money Laundering charges in Fayette County on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop at 1:25pm on a white 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500 pickup truck on I-10 Westbound at Mile Marker 662.
The vehicle was occupied by the driver, 34-year-old Everado Luna Guerrero, and the passenger, 19-year-old Salvador Gamez, both of who are from Edinburg, Texas.
Upon making contact with Guerrero, Investigator Smith said he observed several criminal indicators, which led to him asking for consent to search the truck.
After receiving consent, Smith observed the spare tire had been tampered with. He asked Guerrero if they had done something with the tire, to which Guerrero replied, “No.”
Smith scanned the tire with his handheld scanner and observed several cash bundles in the tire.
The cash bundles that were seized totaled out to $199,910.
Guerrero and Gamez were arrested on Felony Money Laundering charges. They were then transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.
DPS K-9 Trooper Zack King assisted at the scene.
Any questions about drug cartels in our country! I hope they seized the truck also. We must stop this open border invasion. Good work officer Smith and King.
