CHRISTOPHER LEWIS WINS WASHINGTON CO. SPELLING BEE
Christopher Lewis is the winner of the 69th Washington County Spelling Bee held Thursday night at Brenham High School.

Lewis was the top speller of 26 participants from nine Washington County schools. He is a 5th grade student at Brenham Middle School and the son of Selena Cerda and DeQuincey Lewis.
Lewis and the second-place contestant, Silas Johnston, a 6th grade student at First Baptist Church School, went back and forth for several rounds after the third place finisher, Zayne Estrello, a 5th grade student from Brenham Middle School, misspelled feisty. After Johnston stumbled on the word anomaly, Lewis correctly spelled respiratory and perpetrate to win the spelling bee after 19 rounds.
Lewis will now go on to represent Washington County at the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on March 22nd.
KWHI has been a sponsor of the Washington County Spelling Bee since it began in 1955 and provides cash prizes for the finalists each year.

Great job everyone. It was a great contest. Only problem was the high school was like a deep freeze. We pay a huge amount in school district taxes and would think they could afford to turn on the heat.
