BURTON ENACTS STAGE 5 DROUGHT PLAN AS CITY DRILLS NEW WATER WELL
The City of Burton is instituting Stage 5 of its Drought Contingency Plan as drilling of the city’s new water well gets underway.
Burton Mayor Karen Buck says the Stage 5 water restrictions are “scheduled and planned”, and are intended to limit water usage for non-essential uses so that there is more water available for primary needs like cooking, drinking and bathing.
Stage 5 of the plan means that the following items are prohibited:
- Irrigation of landscaped areas, as well as the watering of lawns and flower beds with a garden hose;
- The use of water to wash motor vehicles or boats;
- Filling, refilling or adding water to swimming pools, wading pools and Jacuzzi-type pools;
- The operation of any ornamental fountain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes;
- Washing down sidewalks, walkways, driveways or parking lots;
- Power washing buildings;
- Flushing gutters.
Buck says the goal is a 20 percent reduction of water usage, as well as an increased awareness from local residents and businesses about water conservation practices, as the new water well moves along in the drilling process.
The Stage 5 restrictions are currently scheduled to remain in effect through Friday.
