CUB FOOTBALL HANDS OUT TEAM AWARDS AT END OF SEASON BANQUET
The Brenham Cub Football Team held their annual end of season banquet on Wednesday at the Fireman's Training Center.
The banquet was held to honor another successful season that saw Brenham go 11-2 for the second straight year and make it to the third round of the playoffs.
During the banquet, the Cub coaching staff handed out their annual team awards.
The Overall Team MVP went to WR Chris Guidry (Sr.), who had an incredible season. He finished the year with 70 receptions for 1,355 yards, and 22 touchdowns. Guidry also broke multiple school receiving records along the way.
QB Xyran Upshaw (Sr.) and WR Cartelle Brown (Sr.) were named as the Co-Offensive MVPs. Upshaw completed 131 out of 218 passes (60%) for 2,395 yards, 33 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, and a QB Rating of 124.1. He was also second on the team in rushing with 118 carries for 421 yards and five touchdowns.
Brown finished the season with 44 receptions for 824 yards and nine touchdowns. He also carried the ball 25 times for 226 yards and a touchdown.
LB Caleb Espinoza (Sr.) and LB Kristian Prosper (Sr.) were named as Co-Defensive MVPs. Espinoza led the Cubs with 87 total tackles. He had 65 solo tackles and 22 assists. Espinoza also had ten tackles for loss, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
Prosper was second on the team with 84 total tackles, 62 solo and 22 assists. In addition to that, he finished with 12 tackles for loss, four sacks, and two interceptions.
P Landon Zelenka (Sr.) was named as the Special Teams MVP. This past season, Zelenka had 33 punts for a 37 yard average. He landed seven punts inside the 20-yard line. Zelenka's longest punt of the season was for 74 yards.
The Most Valuable Lineman Award went to DE Mason Seeber (Sr.). Seeber had 57 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three sacks, 22 QB hurries, and three fumble recoveries.
The For The Brand Award went to OG Andre Mojica (Sr.) and DT Jase Mueller (Sr.). Mojica is one of the leaders on the Cub offensive line and has won multiple awards including All-District, All Brazos Valley, All State, and Academic All State. He was last year's Most Valuable Lineman winner.
Mueller finished the season with 37 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 19 QB hurries, and led the team with five sacks.
Next up, the Cubs await the realignment announcement in February to find out who will be their new district foes.
