Cadet Allison Mendoza is the recipient of a $180,000 United States Marine Corps Scholarship, covering four years of college tuition. The scholarship is awarded to only approximately 20 percent of applicants, with more than 3,000 students applying each year.
Brenham ISD says the selection process requires strong academic performance, leadership development, a formal application and interview process, a high SAT score, and successful completion of an intensive physical fitness assessment. The Marine Corps scholarship program seeks students who demonstrate character, responsibility and a readiness to serve.
Upon completion of her degree, Mendoza will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.
Brenham High School Principal Michael Watts says, “Allison’s accomplishment reflects years of dedication, perseverance, and quiet determination. She represents the very best of Brenham High School students—driven, disciplined, and committed to excellence. We are incredibly proud of her.”
MCJROTC Instructor Captain Jeffrey Bayse says “Earning this scholarship is no small feat. It requires academic strength, physical discipline, and a strong sense of commitment. Allison met every challenge placed before her, and her success speaks for itself.”
Mendoza says, “Getting to this point isn’t something I ever thought was possible when I first started MCJROTC. I was honestly speechless when I found out. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and for everyone who supported me along the way.”
Brenham ISD congratulates Mendoza on the accomplishment and says it looks forward to seeing her continued success as she pursues higher education and prepares to serve as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.
