A coach at Somerville ISD has been arrested for online solicitation of a minor and sexual assault of a child.

Mike Vela (Washington County Jail)

28-year-old Mike Christopher Vela was arrested by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday at Somerville High School.

The charges resulted from an extensive investigation in which a 15-year-old male made allegations of inappropriate and unlawful conduct with Vela in Washington County.

According to the school’s website, Vela is the head basketball coach at Somerville High School and teaches 7th grade Texas History and 10th grade World History. Vela’s online profile also says he previously coached in Brenham, Poth, and Cameron Yoe.

He is currently being held at the Washington County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Somerville ISD released a statement Tuesday saying:
