BLINN BOARD MEETING TO MAINTAIN TAX RATE

The Blinn Board of Trustees will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) evening to consider a 2018 tax rate of $0.0601 per $100 of property value.

This rate would maintain the same rate established from 2015-17, and would yield an estimated $1,973,274 in tax revenue to support the Brenham campus.  This rate, which remains the lowest among the state’s 50 community college districts, would average $110.74 in annual taxes on the average Washington County home, which is valued at $184,266.

The effective rate of $0.0592 would yield approximately $1,947,626, while the rollback tax rate of $0.0639 would yield an estimated $2,081,566.  The average Texas community college property tax rate is $0.1805.

Blinn will hold two public hearings on the tax rate.  The hearings are scheduled for Tuesday, September 4th at noon, and Thursday, September 13th at 6 p.m.  The board will vote to adopt the tax rate at its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 18th at 6 p.m.

Also at tomorrow night’s meeting, the board will seek qualification statements for a contractor for W.L. Moody Library renovations.  Construction is expected to begin February 1, 2019, with a budget of $2 million.

The board will also look to negotiate a student health services contract for the Brenham campus.  Starting September 17th, the Brenham Clinic will no longer be an affiliate of College Station RHC Company, and will become an associate of Baylor Scott and White.  Blinn will need to either amend or assign the existing contract to Baylor Scott and White, or negotiate a new contract with the firm, for student and staff health services on the Brenham campus.

Blinn trustees will meet tomorrow evening at 6 p.m in the Blinn College Board Room, located in the Brenham Campus Administration Building on 802 Green Street.
