BLINN COLLEGE TO HOST BAND MARCHING FESTIVAL THIS WEEKEND

Hundreds of high school musicians will get a taste of college band this weekend during the 41st annual Buccaneer Marching Band Festival.

The festival, set for Saturday, Oct. 10 at Brenham High School’s Cub Stadium, is sponsored by the Blinn College Division of Visual/Performing Arts & Kinesiology and hosted by the Blinn College band. Blinn will welcome 23 high school bands from across the state to play for a panel of renowned marching band judges. The valuable critiques come just weeks before pivotal University Interscholastic League (UIL) contests.

Hempstead High School will kick off the festival at 1:15 p.m. The Blinn College drum line will perform at 3 p.m., and an open Blinn band rehearsal will start at 6 p.m. The Blinn Buccaneer Band will deliver the final performance of the day at 8:45 p.m. The festival is free and open to the public.

“This will give high school students an inside look at a college band rehearsal,” said Sarah Burke, director of bands. “The fact that Blinn College has kept this festival going for 41 years shows high school students that Blinn is committed to music and band.”

Awards will be presented to the top three bands from each classification and to the top soloist, drum line and color guard following the performances.
