Blinn volleyball player Danusia Sipa Borgeaud awarded Atkinson Cup for academic excellence

Blinn College has named volleyball player Danusia Sipa Borgeaud the winner of the 2017 Dr. James H. Atkinson Cup as the Blinn student athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average.
The sophomore from Canberra, Australia maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) throughout her two years at Blinn.
“Danusia was an excellent player, teammate, and student,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn volleyball head coach. “She is the type of person who takes pride in everything she does, and schoolwork is just one example of that.”
As a freshman in 2015, Borgeaud posted 250 kills and 450 digs, helping the Buccaneers to the Division I National Tournament. In her sophomore season, Borgeaud switched to defensive specialist and led the team with 559 digs.
“I am just determined to do my best in everything I do, whether it’s on the court or in the classroom,” Borgeaud said. “I learned that in order for me to get good grades that I had to put in extra work.”
Borgeaud signed to continue playing volleyball at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
The Atkinson Cup is sponsored by the Buccaneer Alumni Letterman Association. The award was established in 2000 to honor the top sophomore student athlete with the highest GPA in a minimum of 48 transferable hours. The award is named for former Blinn athletic director and president, the late Dr. James H. Atkinson.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
