BUILDING STANDARDS COMMISSION DENIES BLINN CONTRACTOR REQUEST

Meeting yesterday (Monday) at 5:15pm, the City of Brenham’s Building Standards Commission denied the new Blinn dorm contractor’s request for a variance to the electrical code.

The general contractor for the dorms, Infrastructure Associates, asked permission from the Commission to use Romex wiring in the dorm units.

The current code for Brenham requires the use of nonmetallic sheathed cables, forcing the contracting to request the variance.

The City of Brenham’s staff recommended that the request be denied, and the dorms be constructed with electrical metal conduit systems throughout, as the previous dorms have.

The request was, in fact, denied during the meeting.
