CONTRACTOR GIVEN ONE LAST CHANCE TO COMPLETE PARK BATHROOMS

GCP Contractors out of Needville has been given one last chance to complete the new bathrooms at Fireman’s Park.  Brenham City Council approved their bid of $251,500 for construction of new bathrooms at Fireman’s Park in July of last year. The new restrooms were to replace an old restroom structure adjacent to the kitchen building and would be funded through the BCDC.  Construction of the new bathrooms was expected to take 120 days and be completed by December 1st.  The contractor was delayed by the heavy rains from Hurricane Harvey in August but only the foundation of the buildings has been completed by the end of the year.

Public Works Director Dane Rau said that during an Executive Session at today’s (Thursday’s) City Council Meeting, council members elected to give GCP one last chance to complete the project.  A new construction schedule will be drawn up by city staff showing what is expected to be completed every two weeks.  Representatives for GCP said they have a new sub-contractor now and expect that they can complete the project in 5 to 6 weeks.  Rau said the option to terminate the contract will again be put on the agenda for council’s next meeting on January 18th, and they may elect to go that route if construction does not meet the time schedule.  Rau said that if council terminates the contract, it would be a lengthy process, but that the city would be covered by the construction bond and GCP’s insurance company.

  1. Drove by Fireman’s Park today (Sunday) the construction site was filled with busy workers. Admirable they were working on a Sunday. So glad the City gave them a chance to complete this project.
