CUBS HOST MEDINA VALLEY IN BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFFS FRIDAY

The Brenham Cubs begin their 2019 playoff run tonight at Cubs Stadium as they host the Medina Valley Panthers in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

The Cubs (8-2), champs of District 13/5A DII, enter the post-season off a pair of convincing wins over playoff-bound teams (Pflugerville Weiss and Leander Glenn).  The Pirates finished fourth in District 14/5A DII, winning four of their last five games.

Cubs Head Coach Eliot Allen says the Panthers are ‘very strong’ up front…

The Panthers’ potent ground game is led by senior running back James Gipson, who has rushed for 1152 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.  Medina Valley quarterback Charlie Marsh IV has added 461 yards on the ground and 1068 yards in the air, with four rushing touchdowns and 10 scoring passes.

The Cubs have featured a balanced offensive attack with over 2000 yards rushing and 1800 yards passing.

Quarterback Garrison Weiss has thrown for over 1200 yards and 12 scores, while rushing for over 560 yards and eight touchdowns.  The Cubs’ balanced rushing attack is led by Daylonn McCowan with 850 yards and 14 touchdowns.  Sophomore tailback Javon Dixon has added 540 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Cubs have featured a trio of targets for their passing game: Yann Toussom (26/359/3 TD); Jackson Mueller (23/494/4); and Traveon Britton (21/314/1).

Coach Allen says, though, the key for the Cubs is winning the line of scrimmage…

The winner of tonight’s game faces the winner of the game between Alice and Mercedes.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:30 at Cubs Stadium.  The game can be heard on AM-1280 KWHI, FM 101.7 and www.kwhi.com beginning at 7:00.
