  1. Please ladies and gentlemen…read more than just the current news… read ancient and modern history’s well!! For all of the people who are okay with government guidelines and government enforcement for the betterment of humanity. And think “we only need to go in our homes for 14 days”!!! I bet you didn’t know this is being said in China and Italy right now. Give a inch? They will take a mile.
Are we ready for this? Are these the kind of government guidelines we are okay with following?

“Due to lockdown, most of the transmission that’s actually happening in many countries now is happening in the household at family level,” Mike Ryan, head of health emergencies at the World Health Organization, said in a briefing on Monday. “Now we need to go and look in families and find those people that may be sick and remove them and isolate them in a safe and dignified manner.”

  2. Knowing WHO has it will not keep you from getting it. You must treat all people and all surfaces as though they could potentially be contaminated. Wash your hands, clean doorknobs, light switches, steering wheel, phone, keyboards, wallet, debit card, counter tops and other surfaces that are touched as well as shoes. And did I mention WASH YOUR HANDS!!

  3. Paula Guzman, why do you think we need local authorities to take proactive measures ? How can people that dont follow the rules effect those of us who do ? Do you think stricter rules are the answer for those that arent worried about catching the virus and dont follow the precautions already in place ? How does being a nurse make a difference ? Last but not least are you related to Mr
Guzman that had the dealership, and has the property on 390 and buisness selling GC ? If so Ive met him and he is very nice person !

  4. It also won’t matter if they issue a shelter in place order, because most people in this town are being given letters stating that the companies that they work for are “essential”. Which means shelter in place doesn’t apply to them. They still have to get out and go to work. Some businesses are even working more hours not less.

  5. So I see some asking for a shelter in place. I have some questions for the people saying this.

    1. When you say shelter in place are you saying that every single person has to stay in their residence, and that no one is allowed to go any where for 14 days?

    2. Who is going to be enforcing this shelter in place? If someone is not abiding by it what is supposed to happen to them?

I just see people shelter in place don’t go anywhere. I just had some questions and wanted to see if anyone calling for shelter in place could answer those for me.

    Thank you

    1. Shelter in place , since you don’t watch the news or watch what other states or cities do, means go out for essential needs: grocery stores(but not every day), pharmacy, and medical needs. Then go back home. They call even social distancing from
Your own families. People in this town are doing as they wish and just spreading the virus. Nobody knows who is carrying it, unless you show symptoms and get tested. The shelter in place is in order to keep everybody at home except for essential needs to stop the spread. Watch the news learn something about this virus look how bad it is in other states quit thinking that it won’t come here because it is already here and they’re expecting it to get worse. Other cities and counties are imposing fines and jail time even for not social distancing that’s what needs to happen everybody needs to quit worrying about themselves and taking account how bad this virus is

  6. Close it down already people. We can all survive 3 weeks in our homes while this blows over. Put someone in charge who will make it mandatory. This is ridiculous.

  7. This town probably has over 1000 people walking around right now infected and untested. Houston probably has half a million. Lockdown or no lockdown, it’s well past irrelevant. If we wanted containment response, we either need to live in a totalitarian state like the chi comms or in a economic and regulatory structure that supports it.
We have flattened the curve as flat as it’s going to get. I know our medical and emergency systems have taken this time and the next two weeks to prepare for the increase in cases of up to 2000 people in WC. I am proud to have the county leadership that has the outright courage to maintain our values in the face of mass hysteria.

If you can’t pay your mortgage or rent in 2 or three months or more you will be evicted and homeless. Thats just one expense. I’ll take my chances w this bad case of flu any day along w using good hygiene and Ppe if needed. How does poverty affect mortality?

  8. Call out the Storm Troppers! Get Craven’s guys start rounding up all non Washington Co citizens and lock’em up! You will never get 100% of the public to agree to a complete Lock-Down period!

Just accept it! and go on…..

    You can print this…..

  9. I’m not so sure it is business as usual in Brenham. Many of the car loads of people do not reside in Washington County. They are people on there “shelter at home mini vacations” coming here to stomp around in the Bluebonnets. Unfortunately we cannot control who enters into the county. Our grocery stores are filled with out of town people daily.

  10. Hippa whoa, the government and celebrate names are released everyday. People stop talking about God is going to protect me. Don’t put God though no foolish test, use your 5 senses. If you had 5 o’ clock traffic coming you wouldn’t walk out in middle of it and say God is going to protect me. So please don’t keep thinking that this covid19 is not serious enough to stay in or us maskes or more so close Brenham down for awhile. We going to keep on until Brenham have a pandemic like surrounding towns. We are a small close knit country town, people always moving here for our school system. Come on leaders of Brenham y’all can do more, regardless to who don’t want it. When we have a out break then the same ones that saying Brenham is doing to much, will be the first ones to cry oh my babies, my parents then it’s to late. Come we know what God can and will do, but use what you got until he step in.PLEASE STAY SAFE SISTERS AND BROTHERS OF WASHINGTON CO.

  11. Much thanks to our Governor for issuing stronger rules to try and end the spread of Covid 19. At least he has the strength and courage to keep us safe, unlike our local authorities. Now let’s see if they enforce it, and if we see they are not then our Governor’s office should be notified.

  12. Just stop.
If you get sick then you obviously came in contact with someone who has spread the virus. Everyone needs to assume anyone and everyone has the potential to spread it to you. Just stay home and wash your hands, get supplies as needed but try to limit your outings as much as possible. Breathe, relax and pray.

  13. Let’s not worry about HIPPA right now I am a nurse I wanna know how we’re going to convince this county judge to take proactive measures Before it becomes too late there’s got to be away the citizens can convince him what is in place which is practically nothing is not working they were people all over Washington on the Brazos last week and all over Lake Somerville all of our city parks Walmart was packed and the bike riders that came from Chapel Hill I said out of my front door and watch 25 or more cars and rides plus that sit and congregate This judge works for us I have already emailed governor Abbet to let him know if this town is taking no precautions

  14. What about Daycares still being opened?!! This sounds absurd to me. Lack of common sense is what I see.

    1. Other people have to work! What you mean lack of common sense. This comment sounds like a lack of common sense.

    2. By law, they are deemed essential services. There are some people that must work and this is the only option for child care.

    3. What about the people with kids who are essential workers? What are they supposed to do?

  15. They will never do a shelter in place here. Even with people running around shopping when they are supposed to be self quarantining. People running around WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER!

  16. Not good, needs to be a lockdown for 14 days to see who will show symptoms during that time, meanwhile take 11 and times by 10,that’s what you got.the infected rate will double every 4 days..STAY HOME,WASH HANDS,DONT TOUCH YOUR FACE ,DISTANCE YOURSELF…AND PRAY….

    1. Actually it’s not your business where they are hospitalized,it for their protection just like when you are in hospital etc that info is protected also,so is everyone’s elses..worry about the cases not reported yet

  17. The time for a county wide shelter in place is now. Our doctors, nurses, & first responders should not have to be put themselves into harms way unnecessarily simply because grown people cannot stay separated. The 10 or so women/Mom’s that gathered in the First Baptist Church parking lot yesterday afternoon in their cars together are definitely defeating the purpose of social distancing. It is called social DISTANCING for a reason. As far as our local leaders know, these local cases of the Covid 19 virus are community spread. Folks we CANNOT live our lives like nothing serious is going on – we just cannot. Clearly the order needs to be put into place so that at least penalties can be assessed against those who do not comply. Just because a few do not think this is serious, does not mean the rest of us want to take the same chances. The time is NOW County Judge, NOW!

    1. Just wondering who you think should be included in the shelter in place ? Should everyone stay at home for two weeks ? Should everyone who works in the grocery stores, truck drivers, meat markets, gas stations, farmers and ranchers all stay at home ? What would happen if all of these people stay at home? When the two weeks are over there would be no groceries, food, medicine, gas or anything else available to survive. If the farmers don’t plant their crops, there will be no food. Think about what you are wishing for before it comes back to bite you !! Just be smart !!!

  18. Concerned citizen I agree with you one ? percent. Its kind of hard to try and keep yourself and family safe if we don’t know who these people are.And if we may have had some kind of contact with them or someone else that we had contact with. And I can’t believe people aren’t taking this serious and going about thier business. Its bad enough that the people that still have to show up for work is having to take the chance of not getting it and taking it home to thier families.,But for those people that are just out running the streets you need to stop stay home and pretect yourself and family.I can understand if you have to go buy groceries or go to the Dr that’s something that you need to do,but do it and get back home and don’t take the whole family that way it’s less chances that everyone will come in contact with it.People we are asked to stay home for a good reason so please listen and do what your asked to do and stop acting like you are safe from catching this viruse BECOUSE no one is safe no mater color, size, shape, big, little or small we are all in danger of catching this viruse and spreading it.

    1. Whoever had close contact with the 11 viruses cases (so far) I guarantee have been traced, called and are in quarantine. These ppl who track cases know there job and are 10 steps ahead of you..they do this for a living

      1. Doesn’t have to be “close” contact for it to spread, and it’s folly to assume they have contact info for everyone they’ve come across. The best they can do in many cases is location/date & time.

    1. That is actually not how it works.
They have to approve the comment first before it is posted (as your’s was clearly approved). They are keeping us informed on what is happening LOCALLY as it happens, as they get the information. I don’t know exactly what you think you are in the dark about. Care to elaborate?

  19. The only way for our community to survive this pandemic is to assume that every single individual is an asymptomatic carrier. It is a mistake to think that one’s best defense is to simply identify and avoid these confirmed individuals because it already has been spreading in our community.

I can personally testify that it is almost impossible to get a COVID-19 test — I have had symptoms and my brother had direct contact with 3 confirmed cases — yet we were both denied testing per CDC guidelines. Don’t worry — we have been self-quarantining in our own homes — but you need to know that there are many, many people in the Brenham area who have symptoms but can’t confirm it because the tests are being saved for first responders.

My heartfelt prayers are extended to the affected families, as well as for the health care professionals who are risking their lives.

  20. Yep, let’s keep waiting and building up all the cases we can, before we issue a shelter in place. Pay attention and watch the news. If anything, watch what the Governor of New York says, maybe you will change your minds. Blows my mind that this county still has done nothing. Protect the elderly and the kids of anything. We are already way behind in stopping this. What’s two weeks to shelter to slow this spread. Oh yeah, I forgot money and popularity is more important in this county SMH

    1. New York State is way different than Texas. The culture, beliefs and values are different. Apples and oranges.

      1. Not talking about the culture. Talking about taking the steps to stop the spread and what this virus can do. Go back and read.

  21. At this point we just have to accept the fact that everyone in Brenham is going to get it. There’s no way around it. Everyone in this town that I’ve talked to think it’s either some type of conspiracy theory or they’re invisible and that type of stuff just doesn’t effect the good ole people of Brenham lol. Oh and let’s not forget that it’s not people in Brenham that’s actually passing the virus around, it’s people coming in to see the Bluebonnets and coming to “our” grocery stores to buy up all the toilet paper lol. Get real people!!! Use common sense!

    1. It’s not only visitors it also citizens of brenham spreading it,going traveling, going to friends houses, family houses ,citizens going to doctors in surrounding areas etc, stop blaming outsiders for everything in the era of traveling. You ,I and everyone else travel EVERYONE does..sadly alot of ppl in brenham thought their town was immune bc it’s a small town WRONG,.you cant control other ppls actions, control your own, follow the CDC guidelines

  22. Its your neighbor! like I said before, til the state is completely locked down and we get 100% compliance this number will triple a week from today!

  23. 11 cases and yet still no shelter in place. I went they town today to go into work and brenham looks like business as usual. People everywhere !! And car loads of people. How many cases is it going to take ? When are people going to take this seriously ?

    1. My experience is different. Had to run to the grocery store on Monday.(3/31) as curbside pick up is not available until Friday.

Anyway, short story long, there was plenty of parking , foot traffic was less than half the normal. Street traffic was pretty light., too. Downtown was a ghost town.

It actually made me a wee bit despondent: the town being gloomy, dark and empty.

IMHO, we need to use common sense, protect ourselves, our families and neighbors, maintain good hygiene and follow CDC guidelines.

Yes is this is very serious, but let’s not manifest doom and gloom in our lives. The sky is falling attitude makes us weaker and more vulnerable to illness.

Indeed, until a vax is developed CoVid19 is very deadly, but let’s get some persoective. What is our population? How many active cases diagnosed since January? Of those, how many require(d) hospitalizations and finally, how many deaths?

Texas is a whole other country, what works in NY, Ca, or Il may not work in our great state.

      “Remember, this too, shall pass.”

In the meantime, Pluto TV makes for some great binge watching. ,-)

    2. You do realize that if there is a shelter in place, YOU probably won’t be able to go be a “looky-loo” yourself as to how many cars and how many people are out and about.

    1. Interesting how Bastrop County which includes the cities of Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville only had 3 positive cases before enacting shelter-in-place yet Washington County with 11 cases does NOTHING except continue to gather at parks, lakes, museums.

      1. We’re next door neighbors to the third largest city in the nation silly. Of course we’re going to have more, we’re one their favorite destinations.

Besides, we have way more infected and contagious walking around that dwarfs anything reported in news. I’d be worried more about becoming permanently impoverished, destitute and homeless. Try that mortality on for size.

  24. Sure wish I knew who these people were. It would be nice to know considering the person may or may not remember who all they came in contact with. Guess we will all just have to get it ??‍♀️??‍♀️. At this point, everything we are doing is defeating the purpose. People are still running around. People may have been In Contact with a person but let’s not let the public know for their own safety. I get HIPAA but come on… at least give us a name!

    1. You get HIPAA, but let’s just ignore it? SMH…

You need to assume that anyone you come into contact with is infected.

    2. In South Korea, they say, “If you were at this grocery store between 1:00 – 1:30 PM on March 23, come get tested.” Here…nothing.

      1. AGAIN…..If you had come in contact with them, you would of already gotten a phone call before this info came out.AGAIN,there are ppl who track ppl that are infected and trace back to whom they could of infected and back to the other set of ppl and so on.let them do there job ,they specialize in this and are 10 steps ahead of you.

      1. If you didnt get a phone call by now,you were not incontact with them, worry about the others unreported walking around,

    3. Sounds like you dont get HIPAA or you would understand why they cant give out the name….??‍♀️

    4. You do NOT NEED names…as long as people continue working and coming into contact with people, it’ll spread!

    5. You don’t “get” HIPAA if you expect them to release peoples names. That’s literally the purpose of HIPAA

    6. If you were in contact with the person who has it you have been traced back and contacted already. So if you haven’t been contacted you don’t have anything to worry about.

    7. I understand your point of some may not know who they have come in contact with, but if we all act like we have the virus and be cautious (like the CDC recommends) maybe it won’t spread so fast. We can’t control the people that are being careless, but we can control ourselves.
The people that are positive are being quarantined and taken care of, and I’m sure the people they came into contact with have been informed and are self-monitoring.

    8. If you’re asking for names, apparently you don’t “get” HIPAA. Whether you have been in contact with one of these individuals or not, you need to stay at home.

    9. Well, I agree. Unfortunately because of HIPPA they cannot and will not release “Any Identifiable” information. BUT, how about where they were the week leading up to the confirmation. How about a general vicinity where they visited, frequented, ect. Something, anything shy of indentifiable. Just saying

      1. Does it really matter where they were a WEEK AGO?? FOR GODS SAKES, that was a week ago,are you going to stay away from a park bc that person was on the other side of the park from you??? That’s what’s your asking..IF YOU HAD CLOSE CONTACT WITH THAT PERSON YOU WOULD OF BEEN NOTIFIED ALREADY..stop this nonsense! If that person was a the store a week ago are you going to stop going to the store?? It was a week ago!!!..

    10. I agree with concerned citizen, and I, too, was in business where privacy laws were most important. So I am fully aware of these laws. . But, this is ridiculous not to know the ages, gender, and causes to protect ourselves. At least today they decided to reference hospital or home stays. We are a small community and if you knew the names, one might recall if they had been in contact with one infected. If contacted, those infected may give permission to release their names for safety of their friends and citizens. What is the big secret? This is not a disease of which to be ashamed. I am only concerned for our citizens health. Fact is, the unknown is what causes most fear. We get more information and details In other cities and counties than we do in our own. Appears that the city and county are hiding something which is probably not the case. Just appears like that to the citizens. Communication is paramount.

      1. I hadn’t left my house in 12 days and drive to pick up a prescription today. I would have thought it was any normal day in Brenham. I was so disappointed by so many parking lots being almost full in our general downtown area. If we had to “lockdown” now rather than leave our quarantine rules up to ourselves we might not have to keep extending our social distancing time. The longer they leave it up to us without consequences the more our citizens in Brenham seem to push it. I wish everyone would think of others more than themselves at this difficult time. More sacrifices now will make for less sacrifices for our people and our economy later.

    11. No names needed. Privacy is still alive and well in our country.

What is needed is to set the example for others by following CDC guidelines, maintain good hygiene and self isolate. Above all, have faith and remain optimistic.
