(Brazos Co. Jail)

47-year old Wayland Rawls turned himself in Wednesday after an investigation by the Texas Rangers into an incident February eighth at a school fundraiser.

Witnesses claimed Rawls punched a defenseless man numerous times in the head and body causing injuries.

KBTX is reporting that Rawls was convicted of misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury in Harris County back in 1991.

Bryan Police Chief Eric Buske says he will speak publicly this afternoon for the first time since Rawls's arrest.

Rawls is currently free after posting $4,000 bond.

  1. This is what happens when people who commit these offenses are allowed to resign with no warning for the next employer. Liability laws prevent previous employers from giving honest references and the cycle of violent behavior on citizens continues. Once charged with these crimes, it should be mandatory registration of offense with the state and made available to all security or law enforcement agencies. These bad apples reflect poorly on an honorable profession.

    1. Common sense, your comment seems to assume that Rawls was a cop when he was charged with assault in 1991. He would have been 18, which is too young to have been in law enforcement at that time. As far as we know, it may have been nothing more than a schoolyard fistfight. Obviously, it was not considered serious enough to prevent his future employment in law enforcement. I thank God that my teenage indiscretions weren’t held against me years later. Let’s judge his actions on what he did on February 8th, not on what happened 29 years ago.
