CUBS REACHING FOR MILESTONE

The Brenham Cubs baseball team could reach a remarkable milestone Friday night when they host the Huntsville Hornets at Firemen’s Park--the Baseball Capital of Texas.

A win by the Cubs over their long-time rival would be the 1500th in school history.

While definitive records from around the state have been hard to confirm, it is believed that the Cubs will be the first high school team in reach the 1500-win milestone in state history.

The records, compiled over years of research by Amber Westerfeld and Michael Groves, go back to 1950, when the Cubs were 3-9.

Included in the team’s 1499 victories are a state-record seven state championships (1970, 75, 76, 86, 87, 88, 2010), 46 district titles and 33 consecutive playoff appearances.

The Cubs are 12-5 so far this season, 5-0 in District 20/5A play, while Huntsville has struggled to an 0-5 district mark, 4-15 overall.

First pitch is set for 7:00 at Firemen’s Park.  The game can be heard beginning at 6:40 on KWHI and www.kwhi.com with the Sports Doc and Tommy Lange.
